As part of Hillshire Brands' move from the suburbs to this renovated office building in Chicago's West Loop district, this rooftop deck space provides a welcoming outdoor amenity area for employees.
Our design process included developing initial ideas and alternative design concepts for two different rooftop areas for the Owner's consideration. These concepts incorporated varying levels of construction complexity, maintenance requirements, and construction costs - allowing the Owner to select a preferred concept and location that met their use needs, budget, and maintenance abilities.
Our team crafted design details for construction in collaboration with the building architect and the roof's structural capabilities. The final design accommodates all of the Owner's desired uses and program elements, including providing a variety of spaces for formal and informal meetings, company gatherings, and areas for socialization and relaxation. Features include an outdoor kitchen with a communal harvest table, a fire pit with dynamic views of the Downtown skyline, and two shade structures that create the feeling of outdoor rooms.
