This waterfront mixed-use development consists of a new regional offices for Michels Corporation, multi-family residential, hotel, retail space, and a riverwalk with public plaza and park spaces.
Situated on the southern shore of a bend of the Kinnickinnic River in Milwaukee’s Harbor District, this project is being developed in two phases. Phase one has been completed, consisting of an 8-story Michels Corporation office building with support retail, parking and richly amenitized pedestrian plaza spaces built atop structure. Confluence provided complete landscape architecture services for the site and the rooftop amenity deck for the Michels building.
The entire development is structurally supported by a two-level plinth with integrated parking, requiring all landscaped spaces to be built on-structure. Our team used this elevation change to add visual interest throughout the site, creating a terraced park as the central focus and a new accessible public riverwalk along the property’s entire length. This riverwalk consists of 1,000 feet of boardwalk lined intermittently with landscaped seating areas, which play a role in the site’s stormwater management plan.
