This new facility completes Merriam's Community Center Campus, and is located at the main entrance to the complex while anchoring a shared courtyard space.
The Library was designed and constructed on a designated site within the complex after completion of the adjacent Community Center. Working in collaboration with the architecture team, the final design included successfully integrating a front porch, an open lawn area, and a pedestrian plaza into the existing site context to provide flexibility for community gatherings and expanded library events.
A ~13,000sf vegetated green roof was also included with native grasses and perennial plantings to develop pollinator diversity while also addressing sustainability goals for the project. The facility's skylights were also designed to create natural interior daylighting, providing glimpses of the rooftop plantings from within the facility.
