Xavier’s landscape components include streetscape in adjacent rights-of-way, setbacks on private property, a first-floor courtyard, a major amenity deck and a skyline terrace on the 18th floor.
The project was named for its location within the former Cabrini–Green neighborhood, which was named for Frances Xavier Cabrini. Our team had primary responsibility for design of the outdoor spaces, and worked closely with Gerding Edlen and with GREC Architects in order to produce an integrated and coordinated design which reinforces the architecture while also adding attractive outdoor spaces, amenities, and sustainable features.
The streetscape includes innovative rain gardens in the setback on private property to address municipal stormwater detention requirements, planted with water-tolerant multi-stem birch trees as well as deciduous shrubs and perennials adapted to the hydric soils. The 3rd floor amenity deck includes a pool and sundeck with shade structures, and is furnished with chaises lounges, a fire pit, grilling stations and outdoor dining areas. It also includes a variety of seating types, a lawn panel that can also be used for sunbathing, yard games and other activities. There’s also terraced seating adjacent to the lawn and a dog run.
